“Players who are expected to be part of the New Zealand tour are being given rest by the BCCI on rotation. They wanted us to give a two-week break to Ashwin and we did that. He is now free to play in this game,” said a TNCA official.
Karthik, who had missed the last three games due to a wrist injury, too has recovered and will take the field. “He is back to full fitness and his presence is a big boost for the side,” said the official.
Abhinav Mukund too gave the last few matches a miss due to personal commitments. Pradosh Ranjan Paul is another important addition to the squad. Pradosh has been awarded for his consistency in the ongoing U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy. The 19-year-old has been in terrific form and is the 6th highest run-getter in the competition with 643 runs from 5 games.
“Pradosh has been scoring runs in each of the match he has played this season and deserves to be part of the squad. He is a talented youngster who needs to be groomed,” said the TNCA official.
Pradosh has the experience of playing at the first-class level and had given a good account of him in his only Ranji game – against Delhi – last season. “Pradosh had scored a gritty 78 in that game and we are confident that he will do well,” said the official.
From the previous game against Uttar Pradesh, C Hari Nishanth, Abhishek Tanwar, M Mohammed and R Kavin are the ones to miss out. TN’s match against Mumbai will be from January 11.
