Ashwin, Karthik and Abhinav back in Tamil Nadu Ranji squad | Cricket News

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu will have three of their star campaigners back in the mix for the upcoming Ranji clashes against Mumbai and Railways. Star offie R Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik and Abhinav Mukund return to bolster the squad. Ashwin, who was rested as per a request from the BCCI, is available for the game.

“Players who are expected to be part of the New Zealand tour are being given rest by the BCCI on rotation. They wanted us to give a two-week break to Ashwin and we did that. He is now free to play in this game,” said a TNCA official.

Karthik, who had missed the last three games due to a wrist injury, too has recovered and will take the field. “He is back to full fitness and his presence is a big boost for the side,” said the official.

Pradosh has been awarded for his consistency in the ongoing U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy. The 19-year-old has been in terrific form and is the 6th highest run-getter in the competition with 643 runs from 5 games.

“Pradosh has been scoring runs in each of the match he has played this season and deserves to be part of the squad. He is a talented youngster who needs to be groomed,” said the TNCA official.

Pradosh has the experience of playing at the first-class level and had given a good account of him in his only Ranji game – against Delhi – last season. “Pradosh had scored a gritty 78 in that game and we are confident that he will do well,” said the official.

From the previous game against Uttar Pradesh, C Hari Nishanth, Abhishek Tanwar, M Mohammed and R Kavin are the ones to miss out. TN’s match against Mumbai will be from January 11.
