China imposes restrictions on 9 UK residents, four entities in response to Xinjiang sanctions

BEIJING: China has launched sanctions on 9 UK residents and 4 entities in response to London’s sanctions on Beijing over the problem of human rights abuses in Xinjiang province, the Chinese language overseas ministry stated on Friday.
This comes after EU overseas ministers imposed sanctions on 4 Chinese language officers and one entity on Monday over human rights abuses in opposition to Uyghurs. Later, the US, Canada and the UK additionally introduced sanctions in opposition to China.
“The Chinese language overseas ministry has summoned British ambassador to China to lodge solemn representations, expressing agency opposition and robust condemnation. The Chinese language facet decides to sanction, 9 people and 4 entities on the UK facet that maliciously unfold lies and disinformation,” the Chinese language overseas ministry stated in a press release.
The ministry stated that they’ll freeze the property of the sanctioned folks and entities, in addition to ban Chinese language residents and establishments from doing enterprise with them.
The title of 9 people and 4 entities are Tom Tugendhat, Iain Duncan Smith, Neil O’Brien, David Alton, Tim Loughton, Nusrat Ghani, Helena Kennedy, Geoffrey Good, Joanne Nicola Smith Finley, China Analysis Group, Conservative Celebration Human Rights Fee, Uyghur Tribunal and Essex Courtroom Chambers.
On Monday, the European Union had introduced its sanctions, naming Zhu Hailun, former head of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Area (XUAR), and three different high officers, for overseeing the detention and indoctrination program focusing on Uyghurs and different Muslim ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, based on the Official Journal of the European Union.
Based on South China Morning Publish, the sanctions are in response to alleged human rights abuses within the far western area of Xinjiang, the place China is accused of detaining 1,000,000 of Uyghur and different ethnic minorities in reeducation camps.
